Medicare FAQs

The best time to enroll is during your Initial Enrollment Period, which begins 3 months before the month you turn 65 and ends 3 months after. If you miss this period, you may face late enrollment penalties unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

Original Medicare includes Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance). Medicare Advantage (Part C) bundles Parts A and B, usually includes Part D (prescription drugs), and often offers additional benefits like dental and vision. Medicare Advantage plans have networks and may require referrals for specialists.

It depends on your other coverage. If you have employer coverage (your own or a spouse's), you may be able to delay Medicare enrollment without penalty. Medicaid works with Medicare to provide additional benefits. Always check with your benefits administrator before making decisions about Medicare enrollment.
